Michael Jorgensen
Pilot & Aviation Photographer
Mike Jorgensen had his first flying lesson in a Cessna 150 in 1989. His
Commercial Pilot Licence was finally completed in 1995. Amongst various
aviation jobs, Mike also worked in aerial geographical survey, and as a flying
instructor in Australia. He gained his military wings in 1998, flying the
Aermacchi MB-339 for the Royal New Zealand Air Force. During his time at 14
Squadron, Mike had the opportunities to conduct low level strike, fleet support,
close air support, target towing, flypasts, air to air dogfighting, and chase
jet photography missions.
He was also keen to photograph and film the operations, and would often occupy
a spare back seat to document his squadron's activities. When the official
civilian media couldn't fly (either for legal reasons, or airsickness) Mike
would be tasked as the cameraman, and his work was often used in magazines,
newspapers or on television.
Soon after the RNZAF disbanded the Strike Role in 2001, Mike moved to the
United Kingdom, where he flies large jets for a living.
In his spare time Mike can often be found photographing high performance
aircraft, utilising his flying experience, to help plan and co-ordinate safe
formation sorties, in order to produce high action photographs. These images
are generally used to illustrate magazine articles published around the world,
and by military forces for Public Relations. His work is also requested by
various authors for use in their books.
Action Air Images currently uses high quality Canon digital cameras.
